KEEN anglers from as far afield as Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide will converge on Brisbane Water this weekend in search of the biggest bream.

The fishing enthusiasts will be vying for a share of a $10,000 prize pool in the Central Coast Bream Classic, which is being held in conjunction with the Herald-sponsored Central Coast Fishing Expo.

Organiser Errol Baker said each entrant will be required to catch five bream, keep them alive and take them to a weigh-in.

The angler with the biggest catch will win about $3000 worth of new gear courtesy of Coast-wide Marine and other sponsors.

All fish caught in the event will be released back into Brisbane Water.

The three-day fishing expo will be held at Gosford Showground, where the latest in boats, rods and tackle will be on show.

There will also be a full entertainment program, headlined by Flathead Fred, who will present three shows daily for kids on centre stage. The Yamaha Supertank will also be on display, filled with barramundi.

The Central Coast Family Fishing Expo begins at noon on Friday at Gosford Showground and winds up at 5pm on Sunday.

Entry is $8 for adults, $5 for kids and pensioners and $20 for a family.

The event is supported by The Herald and Central Coast Sun Weekly.
